Understanding scholarships
Scholarships come from a variety of sources like colleges, organizations, businesses, and churches. They are awarded for various reasons such as grades, income, geography, and even hair color!
Scholarships

Most colleges offer scholarships that are only available to their admitted students. In most cases students are automatically awarded by the college’s admissions office based on GPA & test scores, invited or nominated to apply for these scholarships from the schools themselves, or can apply online through the college’s website or scholarship platform.
National scholarships can be found through online databases and national organizations. These types of scholarships vary drastically and can be the most challenging for students to find and pin down. Some examples of these types of scholarships are Gates Millennium, QuestBridge, Golden Doors, which are typically open at the start of senior year.
